The History of Postage Stamps in the Faroe Islands
The history of postage stamps in the Faroe Islands is deeply intertwined with the islands’ unique cultural and geographic identity. Prior to the issuance of their own stamps, the Faroe Islands used Danish stamps, reflecting their status as part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
During World War II, postal services became challenging due to disrupted connections with Denmark. To address this, the first provisional stamps specific to the Faroe Islands were issued in 1940.
