Nigeria
The history of postage stamps in Nigeria dates back to the colonial era. The first stamps used in the region were those of British colonies, issued in the late 19th century. In 1914, following the amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria, stamps inscribed with “Nigeria” were introduced. After gaining independence in 1960, Nigeria began issuing its own stamps featuring national symbols, historical figures, and cultural heritage. Today, Nigerian stamps serve both as tools for communication and as collectors’ items showcasing the country’s rich history and diversity.
